PROGRESS & WELLBEING

Using progress trends with care in nutrition coaching

Measurements are one source of context. Learn how to discuss trends without letting a number define progress.

Put each measure in context

Weight and other measurements can change for many reasons and do not describe a person’s whole health or effort. Review them alongside the client’s goals, circumstances, and how they feel.

Use consistent, respectful conversations

Agree together on whether a measurement is useful, how it will be recorded, and how often to revisit it. If tracking increases stress or is not appropriate, focus on other client-defined indicators instead.

Notice actions as well as outcomes

Progress can include more regular meals, improved confidence in the kitchen, or a routine that works better with a busy schedule. These changes may matter even when a scale trend is flat or noisy.

Stay within your role

Coaching records support conversations; they are not a medical diagnosis. Refer clinical concerns to an appropriately qualified health professional and follow the scope of your practice.
